JUNG - History

JUNG - History

1912. Ingenuity has a future.

Near to the current location in Schalksmühle, Albrecht Jung founded a small business in 1912. Its focus was on the production of his then patent-pending invention: the pull cord switch with 1/8 rotation. This technical innovation has a particularly short actuation path, a principle that remains as the basis of all our switch designs today. "My grandfather", says Harald Jung, today's chair of the supervisory board, "was employed as a master craftsman at a company in Schalksmühle. He had many good ideas for innovations, but they all fell on deaf ears there. As a result, he decided to rent some cellar rooms and to become self-employed to turn his ideas into reality." The courage to take risks paid off - together with his later partner, Ernst Paris, Albrecht Jung quickly led the company to success. Only a few years later, Albrecht Jung bought an old school building and a nearby greenhouse that was converted into a temporary production facility in 1919. The first JUNG factory building was then built in Schalksmühle in 1927/1928. Albrecht Jung and Ernst Paris also lead the company together through two world wars and the subsequent post-war years.

1960. The dawn of a new age.

At the beginning of the 1960s, the second generation took over the helm with Siegfried Jung. A few years later, in 1967, his friend Theodor Schulte strengthened the management by adding a sales department. Together the two new men at the top further extended the market success of the family-run company. Alongside a high standard for quality, design and aesthetics became increasingly important. As early as the 1960s, the company presented a push-switch that complemented the tilting and rotary models previously in use. With the development of the first range with maximum switch area, JUNG definitively set new standards in functionality, design and user convenience. The LS 990 switch range, launched in the market in 1968, is one of the timeless classics among the switch ranges even today.

1993. The third generation.

The company has been managed by the 3rd generation, Harald Jung, from 1993 to 2020. As the managing shareholder, he led in the areas of marketing and sales. He was initially supported by Heinz-Jürgen Kuhn and Malte Vinck, before Michael Eyrich and Martin Herms join the company management. The new management also based their work on the guiding principle that has been proven to gain market success until now: Progress as a tradition.

2020. Establishment of the supervisory board.

In March 2020, Harald Jung moved to become the chair of the supervisory board. Since then, the business management of JUNG has been in the hands of Michael Eyrich, who had been responsible for the commercial management since 2008; Martin Herms, who oversaw the areas of innovation and operations since 2007; and Jürgen Kitz, manager of sales and marketing since 2020.

Since JUNG was founded, we have continuously grown and have been a leader in the enormous development in electronics. Each further development of the range has expanded the business segment - from light switches to blind control, security systems, sensors, radio and KNX to energy monitoring. Today, with over 1500 employees, 20 subsidiaries and agencies in around 70 countries worldwide, JUNG is one of the leading medium-sized companies in the electrical industry in Germany.
